Kaslo, BC - 1st Nomination

Written by Dianna Ducs

KasloKaslo, BC, located in the West Kootenay region, just an hour from Nelson, BC.

Or if thinking about the ride from AB, it is 7 hours from Calgary, and can be accessed via Radium or Fernie routes.

Kaslo, a quaint mountain village, is nestled in a valley, surrounded by the lush forest of the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains, spectacular scenery, winding roads, and on the shores of Kootenay Lake. Downtown Kaslo is thriving with artisans and artists, and a beautiful park with pristine beaches lines the village. Heritage buildings have been lovingly restored, along with the S.S. Moyie, the world's oldest intact sternwheeler.

Getting to Kaslo is part of the stunning journey: travelling across Kootenay Lake on the free 35 minute ferry ride, arriving in Balfour and then riding 15 minutes to Ainsworth Hot Springs for a soak, and then 15 more minutes to Kaslo. All along the lake there are accommodations and dining that are friendly and welcoming to riders. Extending the ride past Kaslo to Meadow Creek, makes for an even more memorable journey. There is probably not a more peaceful, serene place to chill and ride.
